Should A Christian Celebrate Halloween?  Christian Children and Kids Participate in a Halloween Celebration?

The biblical answer is a resounding, No!  Of course a Christian and their children should not celebrate Halloween.  Halloween is a thoroughly pagan and Satanic celebration that no Christian should participate in.

If a Christian is going to celebrate anything on October 31 it should be the Reformation.  If a church celebrates Reformation Day on October 31 by dressing in biblical themed costumes I see nothing wrong with it.  That is the glorious day that Christians came out of the false Catholic Church!  In over thirty years of being a Christian I have heard only one pastor out of hundreds even mention Reformation Day.

How shameful that so many pastors are afraid or too timid to mention the great day Christians broke free from the yoke of the tyrannical and false Catholic Church.  Thousands upon thousands of of our brothers and sisters in Christ were tortured and murdered by the heretical Catholic Church and we count their sacrifice as dung by ignoring it.

Halloween was originally called "Samhain" and it marks the end of the final harvest and it is a day to commune and recall the dead.  Halloween (Samhain) is the most sacred day of the year for Wiccans and many other pagan religions to this very day!

Halloween started as a fertility cult among the Celts and it has been associated with witches and demon worship since its inception.  The custom of wearing costumes was to trick evil spirits so they wouldn't attack them.

People might argue, "Halloween is just a time for kids to dress-up and get candy.  The costumes mean nothing, what is wrong with that?"

We are commanded to be salt and light (Matthew 5:13-16), to be separate from our pagan culture (2 Corinthians 6:14-18, James 1:26-27), to discern from the clean and unclean (Hebrews 5:14) and to have no fellowship with darkness (Ephesians 5:11).  God commands us to not participate in the pagan practices of heathens (Deuteronomy 18:9).  If we take a stand as Christians we will suffer persecution from this evil and pagan culture (2 Timothy 3:12).  Our own families will hate us for being Christians (Matthew 10:34-39).

"When you come into the land which the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominations of those nations,"
Deuteronomy 18:9

"And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them,"
Ephesians 5:11

We need to teach our children that being a Christian is not easy.  We need to teach them that we need to be salt and light and a bold witness for Christ.  Teach them that the world will laugh at our sacred beliefs and call us names like: Jesus Freak, Bible Thumper, Bible Basher, and Holy Roller.  We need to teach our children that it is an honor to be mocked for believing in Christ:

"Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake.  Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you,"
Matthew 5:11-12.

But too many "Christian" parents are teaching their children to go along with our pagan culture.  They teach their kids to hide their beliefs so they won't be mocked or ostracized by their peers.  That is unbiblical and not any way a Christian should raise their children.

If you forbid your children from participating in Halloween they will be mocked by their heathen and "Christian" friends and family.  This is a teachable moment to instruct them that it costs to be a Christian.  Explain to them that throughout their life they will be derided for being a Christian.  Teach them that this is part of taking up our cross (Matthew 16:24-26).  Has the offense of the cross ceased (Galatians 5:11)?  The world is not our friend, nor home (James 4:4).  We are sojourners and pilgrims who seek our heavenly home (2 Peter 2:11).

"Adulterers and adulteresses!  Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God?  Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God,"
James 4:4

"Churches" and "pastors" are leading the way by having Halloween celebrations at their churches.  How sad and pathetic!  I would assume that nearly every "Church" that has a Halloween celebration on its property did not even mention Reformation Day being on October 31.

"Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it...Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.  Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’  And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!,"
Matthew 7:13, 21-23.

Some Christians claim that celebrating Halloween is between them and God.  When a debatable issue like this is brought into the public domain certain scriptures come into play that forbid these types of activities by Christians:

"So then each of us shall give account of himself to God.  Therefore let us not judge one another anymore, but rather resolve this, not to put a stumbling block or a cause to fall in our brother’s way.  I know and am convinced by the Lord Jesus that there is nothing unclean of itself; but to him who considers anything to be unclean, to him it is unclean.  Yet if your brother is grieved because of your food, you are no longer walking in love. Do not destroy with your food the one for whom Christ died. Therefore do not let your good be spoken of as evil; for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.  For he who serves Christ in these things is acceptable to God and approved by men.  Therefore let us pursue the things which make for peace and the things by which one may edify another.  Do not destroy the work of God for the sake of food. All things indeed are pure, but it is evil for the man who eats with offense.  It is good neither to eat meat nor drink wine nor do anything by which your brother stumbles or is offended or is made weak."
Romans 14:12-21

"But beware lest somehow this liberty of yours become a stumbling block to those who are weak.  For if anyone sees you who have knowledge eating in an idol’s temple, will not the conscience of him who is weak be emboldened to eat those things offered to idols? And because of your knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died?  But when you thus sin against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, you sin against ChristTherefore, if food makes my brother stumble, I will never again eat meat, lest I make my brother stumble."
1 Corinthians 8:9-13

If a Christian is walking in love like the great Apostle Paul, they would not even entertain the idea of dressing-up for Halloween.  A Christian walking in the spirit (Galatians 5:16) would not want to use their liberty in Christ to cause another Christian to stumble.

I have several children and I will never allow them to participate in Halloween by dressing-up in costumes.  I take my job seriously as a Christian parent.  I will prepare them for the persecution they will face by being salt and light.  I am routinely mocked by heathens when I preach the Gospel to them.  I am honored to be scorned for something as glorious as the Gospel of Christ.

Christian parent, when was the last time you were scorned for preaching the Gospel?  How many times have you been called a Jesus Freak and a Bible Basher during the last year?  I am not talking about being persecuted for acting annoying or abrasive.  If you humbly preach the Gospel and are salt and light people will call you names.  The Bible clearly teaches this truth (2 Timothy 3:12, Matthew 10:34-39).

"If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you.  If you were of the world, the world would love its own.  Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.  Remember the word that I said to you, ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’  If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you.  If they kept My word, they will keep yours also,"
John 15:18-20

Are you really a Christian?  Are you following The Great Commission?  Are you suffering for the Gospel of Christ?  Or are you just some lukewarm "Christian" who plays "church" on the wide road to Hell?

"Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith.  Test yourselves.  Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?  Unless indeed you are disqualified.  But I trust that you will know that we are not disqualified,"
2 Corinthians 13:5-6

"Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to the Lord,"
Lamentations 3:40

"And to the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write, These things says the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God: 'I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot.  I could wish you were cold or hot.  So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth.'  Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’—and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked.  I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see.  As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten.  Therefore be zealous and repent.  Behold, I stand at the door and knock.  If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne,"
Revelation 3:14-21

Some Scriptures:

"When you come into the land which the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominations of those nations,"
Deuteronomy 18:9

"Do not be deceived: Evil company corrupts good habits,"
1 Cointhians 15:33

"Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution,"
2 Timothy 3:12

"Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth.  I did not come to bring peace but a sword.  For I have come to ‘set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law’; and a man’s enemies will be those of his own household.  He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me.  And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.  And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me.  He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it,"
Matthew 10:34-39

"Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers.  For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness?  And what communion has light with darkness?  And what accord has Christ with Belial?  Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever?  And what agreement has the temple of God with idols?  For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: 'I will dwell in them And walk among them.  I will be their God, And they shall be My people.'  Therefore Come out from among them And be separate, says the Lord.  Do not touch what is unclean, And I will receive you.   I  will be a Father to you, And you shall be My sons and daughters, Says the LORD Almighty,"
2 Corinthians 6:14-18

"You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned?  It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.  'You are the light of the world.  A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.  Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.  Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven,"
Matthew 5:13-16

"Now go, write it before them on a tablet, And note it on a scroll, That it may be for time to come, Forever and ever: That this is a rebellious people, Lying children, Children who will not hear the law of the Lord; Who say to the seers, “Do not see,”
And to the prophets, “Do not prophesy to us right things; Speak to us smooth things, prophesy deceits.  Get out of the way, Turn aside from the path, Cause the Holy One of Israel To cease from before us,"
Isaiah 30:8-11
