Ted Haggard Special on TLC (The Learning Channel) January 16, 2011

I watched the Ted Haggard Special tonight and I was shocked that he actually made himself out to be the victim.  I couldn't believe how much whining and complaining he did when everything that happened to him was his own doing.  Come on Ted, be a man, take your lumps without sounding like a little baby that has a soiled diaper.

When a real man and leader makes mistakes, sins, or lets people down he needs to stand tall and accept whatever repercussions his actions bring forth.  That is a real leader.  I couldn't believe how much sniveling Ted did, I was sickened by it.

The Bible has some verses on how we should deal with our punishments:

"All your lovers have forgotten you; They do not seek you; For I have wounded you with the wound of an enemy, With the chastisement of a cruel one, For the multitude of your iniquities, Because your sins have increased.  Why do you cry about your affliction?  Your sorrow is incurable.  Because of the multitude of your iniquities, Because your sins have increased, I have done these things to you,"
Jeremiah 30:14-15

If we are to follow the Bible Ted Haggard is forever disqualified from a leadership position in the Christian Church.  He committed adultery, homosexual acts, and used drugs.  There is absolutely no place for him as a leader in Christ's Church.

Look at the qualifications of an elder in the Bible, Ted Haggard clearly does not meet these minimum standards of behavior:

"This is a true saying, if a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.  A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach."
1 Timothy 3:1-2

"This is a true saying, if a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.  A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach; Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous; One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity; (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?) Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.  Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.  Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre; Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience.  And let these also first be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless.  Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things.  Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well."
1 Timothy 3:1-12, See also: Titus 1:5-12

Some many evangelicals make a mockery of the Bible when they allow disqualified persons to hold a leadership position in the church.  Numerous Charismatic leaders have fallen into sin, divorced their spouse, preached heresy, lived lavishly, or committed homosexual acts and after a short period they are allowed back into a leadership position if they were even disciplined at all.  What a disgrace!

"All ye beasts of the field, come to devour, yea, all ye beasts in the forest. His watchmen are blind: they are all ignorant, they are all dumb dogs, they cannot bark; sleeping, lying down, loving to slumber.  Yea, they are greedy dogs which can never have enough, and they are shepherds that cannot understand: they all look to their own way, every one for his gain, from his quarter.  Come ye, say they, I will fetch wine, and we will fill ourselves with strong drink; and to morrow shall be as this day, and much more abundant."
Isaiah 56:9-12

Ted complained about the way he was treated by his Christian friends and the Church after his scandal.  Ted brought shame and reproach unto Jesus Christ and His Church in front of millions of people during his scandal.  Now Ted has the nerve to criticize how Christians treated him in front of millions of viewers.  Ted is again bringing reproach to Jesus by condemning Christians for how they treated him after his sins became public.

"'For the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you,' as it is written."
Romans 2:24

Charles Spurgeon has some fitting words for Ted Haggard and his constant whining and sniveling about being mistreated:

"By your wretched wandering you have disgraced the name of Christ and you have dishonored the cause which you profess to love.  You have made the enemy blaspheme and you cannot wonder that your rest is broken?  If anybody ought to be a mourner you should take front rank among those who lament for the church of Christ seeing that you have done it so much damage that you will never be able to undo it even by a long life of usefulness."
(Charles Spurgeon, "A Dirge for the Downgrade and A Song of Faith," Isaiah 66:10)

"And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel, prophesy, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD unto the shepherds; Woe be to the shepherds of Israel that do feed themselves!  Should not the shepherds feed the flocks?  Ye eat the fat, and ye clothe you with the wool, ye kill them that are fed: but ye feed not the flock.  The diseased have ye not strengthened, neither have ye healed that which was sick, neither have ye bound up that which was broken, neither have ye brought again that which was driven away, neither have ye sought that which was lost; but with force and with cruelty have ye ruled them.  And they were scattered, because there is no shepherd: and they became meat to all the beasts of the field, when they were scattered.  My sheep wandered through all the mountains, and upon every high hill: yea, my flock was scattered upon all the face of the earth, and none did search or seek after them.  Therefore, ye shepherds, hear the word of the LORD; As I live, saith the Lord GOD, surely because my flock became a prey, and my flock became meat to every beast of the field, because there was no shepherd, neither did my shepherds search for my flock, but the shepherds fed themselves, and fed not my flock; Therefore, O ye shepherds, hear the word of the LORD; Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against the shepherds; and I will require my flock at their hand, and cause them to cease from feeding the flock; neither shall the shepherds feed themselves any more; for I will deliver my flock from their mouth, that they may not be meat for them."
