Random Thoughts About Life, Death, Fatherhood & Heaven

Below are some random thoughts and experiences that I have had throughout my life.  These thoughts may be about my Christian walk or any other subject so please keep that in mind.

I came across an interesting quote

“A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government.  A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury.  From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning of history has been about 200 years.  During those 200 years, these nations always progressed through the following sequence:

From bondage to spiritual faith;
From spiritual faith to great courage;
From courage to liberty;
From liberty to abundance;
From abundance to selfishness;
From selfishness to complacency;
From complacency to apathy;
From apathy to dependence;
From dependence back into bondage.”

America is definately in its last stages according to this.

Angry mob burns over 100 homes in protest against a Christian who was arrested after being accused of insulting the Prophet.

"An angry mob of Pakistani Muslims burned scores of homes belonging to Christians on Saturday to protest against a Pakistani of that faith who was arrested after being accused of insulting the Prophet Muhammed.

According to media reports from the Badami Bagh district near Lahore, over 100 homes were torched.

The arrested man was said to be Sawan Masih, described as being in his mid-20s.

The Express Tribune, a Pakistani news outlet, reported that President Asif Ali Zardari had asked authorities for a report about the destruction of homes.

The news outlet said a Muslim mob estimated to have included close to 3,000 people forced members of the local Christian community to flee, leaving their homes and possessions unprotected. It added that Masih’s father was severely beaten.

“Mob wanted police to hand over the alleged blasphemer,” Hafiz Majid, the top police official in Badami Bagh, told CNN.

Pakistan has strict blasphemy laws outlawing criticism of Islam and the Prophet Muhammed. A violation can result in the death penalty.

Masih has denied the charges against him.

The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) blasted Pakistani authorities for failing to act against the persecution of Christians.

“Instead of investigating the case, the police arrested Christians while those who went on a rampage and can easily be identified from television footage have gone scot-free,” complained HRCP chairwoman Zohra Yusuf.

Man Arrested Outside California DMV for Reading His Bible Out Loud

When Mark Mackey, a member of the local Calvary Chapel, showed up to the DMV office in Hemet, CA on February 2, he had a goal: read the Bible and introduce those waiting in line to the “gospel of Jesus Christ.” And for about 15 minutes he was successful. That is until a California Highway Patrolman took the Bible from his hands, arrested him, and told him he was guilty of preaching to a “captive audience.”

According to reports, Mackey wasn’t the only one arrested. Pastor Brett Coronado and Edmond Flores, Jr., who were accompanying him, were also taken into custody.

A press release from the group Advocates for Faith and Freedom, which is representing the men in a lawsuit, says the men were arrested for “impeding an open business” under Penal Code Section 602.1(b). But, the group calls the justification under that statue a stretch.

“The charge of ‘impeding an open business’ was enacted in large part to protect businesses against protestors who block the doors of an open business,” the release says. “At the time of the arrest of these men, the DMV was closed, and they were standing at least fifty feet away from the entrance.”

And it was all caught on video:

Why Obama Doesn't Think Much of Easter

"The media and the blogosphere are abuzz with dumbfounded reactions to the White House's snub of Christians during the weekend. No presidential proclamation celebrating Christianity's highest holy day of Easter was issued, compounded by the White House chief spokesman's scoffing response to reporters' questions about the omission.

As Fox News noted on Monday, "By comparison, the White House has released statements recognizing the observance of major Muslim holidays and released statements in 2010 on Ramadan, Eid-ul-Fitr, Hajj, and Eid-ul-Adha."  On top of neglecting Easter, the president "also failed to release a statement marking Good Friday."  The White House did, however, "release an eight-paragraph statement heralding Earth Day," which fell on Good Friday."

14-year-old killed for refusing to marry father’s cousin
By Shahid Mirza
Published: February 4, 2011

VEHARI: A 14-year-old girl was killed in Vehari on Wednesday night allegedly by his family for refusing to marry a man they proposed.

"Rafia’s father Mukhtar Hussain and an uncle were arrested by Luddan police on Thursday.  The police said Hussain and his brothers – former nazim Muhammad Ramzaan and Farasat Hussain – killed the girl by giving her electric shocks.

SHO Mirza Asif Baig said that Mukhtar Hussain had admitted to killing his daughter.  He said Hussain wanted to marry the girl to his 52-year-old cousin, Saeed Ahmed.  Hussain told the police his cousin was married but had no son.  He said they had registered a case against Hussain and his brother.

The victim’s mother, nominally the complainant, told The Express Tribune that she did not want her husband to be jailed. “My daughter was a disgrace to the family.  We can’t tolerate our children disrespecting their elders’ wishes so we killed her,” Mukhtar Mai said, “why would I want my husband to be punished? He did the right thing.”

Liberal Mainstream Media's Coverage of Iraq/Afghanistan War Since A Democrat Has Been President

When a Republican President was in office there were daily reports of the wars in the Middle East.  Now that a Democrat is the President the Liberal Mainstream Media does not report on the war any longer.  It is as if the war is over and no more American Soldiers are being killed.  There were daily death tolls of the soldiers killed until a Democrat became President.

I came across a good comment describing this:

"There isn't a Republican in the White House to beat over
the head with non-stop coverage. I vividly remember the daily
casualty count on most of the networks.  How come they don't
do that with "Obama's" war in Afghanistan?  Their boy is in
office, so "everything is under control."

How much reporting was done when Clinton sent us to Bosnia?
If there was any, it was how much good we were doing, not about
how many civilians we killed while bombing from, like, two miles up.

The only time the Main Stream Media notices a war is when it advances their agenda, for good or bad."

Remember Gitmo?  When a Republican was President it was non-stop coverage from the Liberal Main Stream Media about the torture going on there.  Obama even promised to close it during his campaign.  Two years later Gitmo is still open and the Liberal Main Stream Media has not even reported on it.

When a Republican was President it was non-stop coverage from the Liberal Main Stream Media about gas prices and the affect on us.  Gas prices have risen drastically to this point and they don't even mention it (January 2011) because a Democrat is the president.

The Liberal Main Stream Media is nothing but a propaganda machine for liberals!

Islam and The Quran Claim Homosexuality Is A Sin

Unbelievers and the Liberal Mainstream Media are quick to condemn Christianly while they never criticize Islam.  I am just curious what the Quran has to say about homosexuality.  If you want to claim Christianity intolerant for our beliefs on homosexuality you must do the same for Islam.  That will never happen, I just wanted to highlight the hypocrisy of the critics of the Bible.

All I ever hear from the liberal media is, "Christianity is intolerant of homosexuals."  How many billions of Muslims are there in the world?  There are many more Muslims than Christians yet nobody ever criticizes Islam for its intolerance of homosexuals.

"We also (sent) Lut: He said to his people: 'Do ye commit lewdness such as no people in creation (ever) committed before you?'  'For ye practise your lusts on men in preference to women: ye are indeed a people transgressing beyond bounds.  And his people gave no answer but this: they said, 'Drive them out of your city: these are indeed men who want to be clean and pure!'"
Sura 7:80-82

Wow!  The Quran teaches Muslims to drive homosexuals out of their cities!  All the New Testament does is call it a sin, it does not tell Christians to do anything except pray for them.  The Quran is so much more extreme than the New Testament towards homosexuals yet the liberal media only attacks Christianity.  Hypocrisy of this magnitude has to make you scratch your head in bewilderment.

Why Socialism, Communism, Marxism, and A Progressive Agenda Will Never Work in A Nation

Socialism:  An example of what happens when Socialism, Communism, Marxism, and A Progressive Agenda is forced upon a people:

An economics professor at a college said he had never failed a single student before but had, once, failed an entire class.  The class had insisted that socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.  The professor then said ok, we will have an experiment in this class on socialism.

All grades would be averaged and everyone would receive the same grade so no one would fail and no one would receive an A.  After the first test the grades were averaged and everyone got a B.  The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy.  But, as the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too; so they studied little.  The second Test average was a D!  No one was happy.  When the 3rd test rolled around the average was an F.

The scores never increased as bickering, blame, name calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for anyone else.  All failed to their great surprise.  The professor told them that socialism would ultimately fail, not because the harder to succeed the greater the reward, but when a government takes all the reward away; no one will try or succeed."

Liberal Mainstream Media

I found a great quote on how the liberal main stream media distorts the truth to promote their; godless, Socialist, Marxist, and Progressive agenda:

“The problem with CNN is that they produce a very professional looking and sounding product, which attracts elitists.  Their message is little more than socialist drivel aimed at the promotion of eroding away conservative ideology.

They use subtle hype and package it as legitimate journalism (much like NPR) and then distribute it to leftists everywhere.  I fear that people take CNN more seriously because of the way they market and distribute their product."

Doctrinal Statement

About 25 years ago a Christian mentor of mine advised me to get a Doctrinal Statement of a church in order to determine if the church was biblical.  That was good advice back then but now it is very hard to discern what a church teaches just from a Doctrinal Statement.

Why?  I will give you a prime example.  There is a very popular "Christian" teacher on television and his church has many thousands of members.  The problem with this "Pastor" is that me is a Modalist that denies the Trinity.

It is impossible to knowingly deny the Trinity and still be a Christian  (Athanasian Creed).  Now, this "Pastor's" Doctrinal Statement on his church website is deceptive and it gives the impression he believes in the Trinity when he does not.  In a case like this it is very hard to determine that this "Pastor" denies the Trinity and therefore is leading people astray by his modalist beliefs.

In many other cases false teachers and false religions will use biblical terms but they will pour their own meanings into them.  In other words, a Doctrinal Statement might appear orthodox at face value but the words in them do not mean what is commonly understood.

Pray to God for; wisdom, knowledge, discernment, and understanding.  Ask God that you will not be deceived by false teachings and He will direct your steps.  You need to be mature in the word and eat the meat.  We all start as babes in Christ drinking the Milk of the Word but we need to grow and be able to discern for ourselves.

"That we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ,"
Ephesians 4:15-16.

"And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual people but as to carnal, as to babes in Christ.  I fed you with milk and not with solid food; for until now you were not able to receive it, and even now you are still not able,"
1 Corinthians 3:1-2.

The Mayflower Compact
1620

"The Mayflower Compact was the first governing document of Plymouth Colony. It was written by the Separatists later known as the Pilgrims who crossed the Atlantic aboard the Mayflower, seeking the freedom to practice Christianity according to their own determination and not the will of the English Church," Wikipedia.

As you can see below the Pilgrims came to America for "Advancement of the Christian Faith."  Wow, that's not what is being taught in our liberal, I mean public schools and colleges.  I wonder why our public schools, colleges, and the mainstream media suppress anything good about Christianity while downplaying all of the misdeeds of their; socialist, communist, Marxist, liberal, and Islamic heros?

"In the name of God, Amen. We, whose names are underwritten, the Loyal Subjects of our dread Sovereign Lord, King James, by the Grace of God, of England, France and Ireland, King, Defender of the Faith, e&.

Having undertaken for the Glory of God, and Advancement of the Christian Faith, and the Honour of our King and Country, a voyage to plant the first colony in the northern parts of Virginia; do by these presents, solemnly and mutually in the Presence of God and one of another, covenant and combine ourselves together into a civil Body Politick, for our better Ordering and Preservation, and Furtherance of the Ends aforesaid; And by Virtue hereof to enact, constitute, and frame, such just and equal Laws, Ordinances, Acts, Constitutions and Offices, from time to time, as shall be thought most meet and convenient for the General good of the Colony; unto which we promise all due submission and obedience.

In Witness whereof we have hereunto subscribed our names at Cape Cod the eleventh of November, in the Reign of our Sovereign Lord, King James of England, France and Ireland, the eighteenth, and of Scotland the fifty-fourth. Anno Domini, 1620."

Below is a great article by John Stossel that is a prime example concerning the lies purpetrated by the public schools, colleges, and the mainstream media.  Those groups blatantly distort the facts about the Pilgrim's lack of success with communal farming.  The Pilgrims didn't have success until each man got his own parcel of land.

They realized the error of their collectivist ways and embraced capitalism, producing a bumper year, upon which they decided that it was only right to celebrate the glory of the free market and private property.

Who are you going to believe, the 300 year hindsight of sophisticated modern day Leftists seeking to negate an ideological point with which they disagree or the simple minded people who were actually there and lived it?  Read it in William Bradford’s own words in his own journal.

"Had today's political class been in power in 1623, tomorrow's holiday would have been called "Starvation Day" instead of Thanksgiving. Of course, most of us wouldn't be alive to celebrate it.

Every year around this time, schoolchildren are taught about that wonderful day when Pilgrims and Native Americans shared the fruits of the harvest. But the first Thanksgiving in 1623 almost didn't happen.

Long before the failure of modern socialism, the earliest European settlers gave us a dramatic demonstration of the fatal flaws of collectivism. Unfortunately, few Americans today know it.

The Pilgrims at Plymouth Colony organized their farm economy along communal lines. The goal was to share the work and produce equally.

That's why they nearly all starved.

When people can get the same return with less effort, most people make less effort. Plymouth settlers faked illness rather than working the common property. Some even stole, despite their Puritan convictions. Total production was too meager to support the population, and famine resulted. This went on for two years.

"So as it well appeared that famine must still ensue the next year also, if not some way prevented," wrote Gov. William Bradford in his diary. The colonists, he said, "began to think how they might raise as much corn as they could, and obtain a better crop than they had done, that they might not still thus languish in misery. At length after much debate of things, (I) (with the advice of the chiefest among them) gave way that they should set corn every man for his own particular, and in that regard trust to themselves. And so assigned to every family a parcel of land."

In other words, the people of Plymouth moved from socialism to private farming. The results were dramatic.

"This had very good success," Bradford wrote, "for it made all hands very industrious, so as much more corn was planted than otherwise would have been. By this time harvest was come, and instead of famine, now God gave them plenty, and the face of things was changed, to the rejoicing of the hearts of many."

Because of the change, the first Thanksgiving could be held in November 1623.

What Plymouth suffered under communalism was what economists today call the tragedy of the commons. The problem has been known since ancient Greece. As Aristotle noted, "That which is common to the greatest number has the least care bestowed upon it."

If individuals can take from a common pot regardless of how much they put in it, each person has an incentive to be a free-rider, to do as little as possible and take as much as possible because what one fails to take will be taken by someone else. Soon, the pot is empty.

What private property does -- as the Pilgrims discovered -- is connect effort to reward, creating an incentive for people to produce far more. Then, if there's a free market, people will trade their surpluses to others for the things they lack. Mutual exchange for mutual benefit makes the community richer.

Here's the biggest irony of all: The U.S. government has yet to apply the lesson to its first conquest: Native Americans. The U.S. government has held most Indian land in trust since the 19th century. This discourages initiative and risk-taking because, among other reasons, it can't be used as collateral for loans. On Indian reservations, "private land is 40 to 90 percent more productive than land owned through the Bureau of Indian Affairs," says economist Terry Anderson, executive director of PERC. "If you drive through western reservations, you will see on one side cultivated fields, irrigation, and on the other side, overgrazed pasture, run-down pastures and homes. One is a simple commons; the other side is private property. You have Indians on both sides. The important thing is someone owns one side."

Secure property rights are the key. When producers know their future products are safe from confiscation, they take risks and invest. But when they fear they will be deprived of the fruits of their labor, they will do as little as possible.

That's the lost lesson of Thanksgiving."

Dual Cassette Tape Stereo

I have a twenty year old cassette tape of Christian music that I recorded from KKLA one Sunday afternoon when I was younger.  The songs on this cassette are really good and this tape is a prized possession that I want to put on a compact disk.

I found a person who would put this cassette on compact disk for a fee if I send him my tape.  I only have one copy of this cassette tape so I wanted to make a copy so if something happened in transit I would not lose my only copy.

I have a nine year old Awaia stereo with a dual cassette player and last night I tried to make a copy and the tape deck that records broke.  I was very disappointed and I went on the Internet to look for a dual cassette stereo and I discovered they don't make them anymore.  I also found out that Awaia was bought by Sony in 2002 and in 2006 Awaia products were discontinued.

Man, where have I been?  When did they stop making dual cassette recorders?  I have looked everywhere and I cannot find one new, I did spot a couple of used ones on EBAY but they are very expensive.

I have debated whether to send my only copy of my prized cassette tape in the mail and I just can't bring myself to it.  Those Christian songs that I recorded over twenty years ago mean so much to me that I just can't mail my only copy.  I don't even know the names of the artists who sing the songs on the tape.  I guess that I will just wait to purchase a good deal on a used dual cassette stereo so I can make a copy of my tape and send it off to be put on a compact disk.

Murders of Iraq War Veterans

I read the story yesterday of an Iraq and Afghanistan War veteran who was murdered outside of his home for no reason.  He went outside to move his car in the early morning hours and he was killed.

It is really hard to imagine how a person can survive several tours in a war zone yet when he comes home to America he is gunned down for no reason.  Every time I read one of these stories (and there have been several) I say to myself, "Even so, come, Lord Jesus."

Prayer

I remember hearing a story by a pastor about prayer and I thought it was funny and true at the same time.  The story goes something like this:

There was this pastor of a very small church and right or wrong he longed for a bigger congregation.  One day he is offered the pastorate of the biggest church in the city and he rushed home to tell his wife.

His wife was excited to hear the news and she asked her husband if they were going to pray about the situation and ask God for guidance and His will for them in this matter.

The pastor incredulously looks at his wife and says, "You pray and I will pack our bags!"  This story reveals how we sometimes make up our minds before we pray and when we do pray it is just for formality, and there is no power in it because we really don't care what God thinks about it because are mind is already made up.

Heaven

I sometimes wonder if while we are in heaven that we could watch the history of earth like a DVD without seeing the sin of course.  What I mean is, being able to watch Noah and the animals on the Ark or watching Joseph being thrown into the pit and then being a ruler in Egypt.  I would like to see Daniel in the fiery pit and Jesus walking on water.

Do you get what I'm saying now?  Watching Paul preach on Mars Hill would be an awesome sight!  Watching the daily life of Jesus minute by minute from His birth to His Resurrection would be the thrill of all thrills.

Church Singing

One of the most moving times of my life was at my Wednesday night church service after a long day of work.  We were singing hymns and suddenly the women in the church sang the chorus by themselves and their voices sounded like angels.  I still remember vividly that night and the great feeling of joy this brought over me.  I thought to myself, "This is what it is going to sound like in heaven when we are praising God."

Good Friday Service

On a recent Good Friday service at our church my wife and I had Communion and worship and I would have to place it right up there in the top ten greatest moments of my life.  Next to my Communion in Israel at the Garden Tomb this was the most spiritual moving time in my life.

Garden Tomb

The Garden Tomb was where the body of Jesus was for three days until His resurrection.  We started by observing Golgotha (where Jesus was crucified) then we actually went inside the tomb of Jesus.  A big sign in the tomb reads: "He is not here for He is Risen."  Amen, He is Risen indeed!

After going into the Tomb of Jesus we took seats literally yards away from the tomb and our pastor gave a moving sermon that exalted Christ and His Word.  We then had communion and sung hymns and this truly was the apex of our trip to the Holy Land and one of the greatest experiences in my Christian walk.

What Happens When.......

What happens when an irresistible force meets an immovable object?  A fantastic explosion!

I remember hearing that answer somewhere a very long time ago and it always made me laugh.  I also think that it is true because in my opinion both of these things would be destroyed if they were to meet.
"Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!"
Psalm 133:1
"With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace."
Ephesians 4:2-3
"But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all thy works."
Psalm 73:28
"Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him: talk ye of all his wondrous works."
Psalm 105:2
